Style Crush Saturday: Lily Collins

Style Crush:  Lily Collins
Known For:  Acting, Modeling
Style:  Vintage, Feminine, Classy

This week's Style Crush is the angelic Lily Collins.  Lily is an English-American actress best known for her role as Snow White in Mirror Mirror,  a movie with a modern twist on the old classic.  Although she was born in the U.K., Lily moved to Los Angeles when she was just five years old after her father, famous musician Phil Collins, and mother, Beverley Hills Women's Club President Jill Tavelman, split.  As a child, Lily performed at the Youth Academy for Dramatic Arts, but at the time, dreamed of becoming a journalist.  Pursuing her interest in journalism, Lily wrote a column for the British magazine Elle Girl and has also been published in Seventeen, LA Times Magazine, and Teen Vogue.  After graduating high school, Lily attended University of Southern California, majoring in broadcast journalism.  Through making appearances on the Nickelodeon show the Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: Kids Pick the President for journalism purposes, Lily found her way back to acting.  Since then, Lily has gone on to act in huge block busters like The Blind Side, Abduction, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and win the 2008 Young Hollywood Award: One to Watch.

Lily Collins may be best known for being an actress, but she has also made a name for herself in the fashion world.  From long ballgowns with sequins galore to skinny jeans and a tattered sweater, Lily always rocks a cutting-edge outfit with grace and beauty.  Although her style is always evolving and keeps getting even better, her trademark today is still her thick, defined eyebrows.  Some have even gone as far as to compare Lily's appearance with that of the late Audrey Hepburn, who was also famous for her dark brows.  After being born in the U.K., but raised in the U.S.A., Lily's style influence comes from both continents.  Never dull, never sloppy, Lily Collins is not only a movie star, but she's also a total fashionista.

My Style: Heartbreaker

Today's Look:  is all about hearts, fringe, and blue.  Today, I channeled a retro, pinup-girl vibe in honor of the summer trend: heart-shaped sunglasses.  Even though heart-shaped sunglasses are a current fashion trend, they can be dated back to as early as the 1950s.  They didn't become popular until after the original promotional photos for the 1962 movie Lolita. Heart-shaped sunglasses were worn by the actress Sue Lyon as photographed by Bert Stern to the right.  Now, once again, heart-shaped sunglasses have gained popularity.

To start the look off, I chose my royal blue, tie-bottom top, and high-waisted jean shorts.  Since the shorts are a very pale blue with white hearts bleached on for design, it was a perfect opportunity to wear my white-rimmed, heart sunglasses.  I also wore white sandals, blue crystal stud earrings, and a white fringed purse to complete the look.

Today's photos were taken at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona.  I was in Tucson all week, enjoying the sun and shopping.  I highly recommend the resort if you're looking for 5 star accommodations with pools, tennis courts, golf courses, a spa, and gourmet restaurants.

Fashion Tip:  When trying to pull a purse into an outfit, in winter you match your boots to the purse, but in summer you can match your sandals with the purse.  If you're interested in purchasing some funky heart sunglasses, I included an array as well as their links below.

My Style: Red, White, and Blue

Today's Look:  is all about celebrating the 4th of July.  To start the look off, I chose my red crop-top.  The shirt has a v-neck and a faded effect that gives it a unique appearance.  Going along with the crop-top, I chose my high-waisted black skirt and cut-off, light denim vest. The light denim vest added the blue in the outfit, while the top and stud earrings added the red.  Since I wanted the outfit to have all three 4th of July colors, red, white, and blue, I incorporated the white by wearing white sandals, a white bracelet, and a white fringe purse.

Outfit Details:  Top by Milky Way USA at urbanog.com, Skirt by Cemi Ceri at urbanog.com, Vest by Yes! Miss at Charlotte Russe (Scottsdale, Arizona), Purse by Wet Seal at Blink (Anaheim, California), Sandals by Merona at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Bracelet at Charlotte Russe.

Fashion Tip:  If you are from the U.S.A. or visiting and have 4th of July plans, definitely dress patriotic.  Not only does dressing in red, white, and blue show off your American pride and respect, it's also fun and helps you get into the 4th of July spirit.  Today, you might also incorporate a purple ribbon in honor of the 19 Prescott firemen who died in the Yarnell fire.

My Style: Black Polka Dots

Today's Look:  emphasizes the beaded collar and black polka-dotted top.  The light peach color blouse stands out amongst the dark pieces of the outfit.  Since the shirt is classy and collared, I wore high-waisted tailored black shorts instead of cut-off denim short.  To match the black polka-dots on the top, I wore a black fringe purse, black creepers with black ankle socks, and dark lensed, bedazzled aviators.

Outfit Details:  Shirt by Audrey 3+1, Shorts by Kimchi Blue at Urban Outfitters (Scottsdale, Arizona), Shoes by Wild Diva at urbanog.com, Purse by American Eagle at ae.com, Earrings by Forever 21 (Scottsdale, Arizona).

Fashion Tip:  When wearing a shirt with a beaded collar, do not wear a necklace.  The collar on the shirt is the necklace.

My Style: Floral Corset

Today's Look:  is all about the sweet, lace up, floral corset top.  To start the look off, I chose the pink flowered corset top and burgundy shorts to bring out the burgundy in the top's design.  Since the corset is spaghetti strapped, I wore a light, cream colored cardigan that matched with the top's chiffon ruffles.  Matching the colors in the shirt and shorts, I wore multicolored, jeweled sandals and earrings to make the outfit pop.  Finishing off the look, I wore a jeweled bracelet, hippie bag, and two rings.

Outfit Details:  Corset Top by Zinga at Basement Market Place (Flagstaff, Arizona), Shorts by Bullhead Black at PacSun (Scottsdale, Arizona), Cardigan by Mossimo at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Sandals by Steve Madden at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona), Earrings by Charming Charlie's (Scottsdale, Arizona), Purse by Rising International at a beach shop (San Diego, California).

Fashion Tip:   When wearing a corset top, go for the sweet look rather than one with a dominatrix vibe.  A corset top is already edgy and sexy enough; therefore, try to cutesy up the top for a more feminine, innocent look.

My Style: Hippie Chic

Today's Look:  is all about channeling one's inner hippie style.  To start the outfit off, I chose a loose baby doll, floral printed blouse.  The blouse's design contains muted pinks, burgundies, greens, and browns.  To match the brown colors in the floral print, I wore dark brown corduroys and rolled them up at the bottom since the weather was warm, and a tarnished gold necklace with crystals at the end.  Matching the navy and purple coloring of the blouse, I wore dark blue sandals and a purple beach bag.

Outfit Details:  Shirt at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Pants by Forever 21 (Scottsdale, Arizona), Necklace by EB at Earthbound Trading Co. (Flagstaff, Arizona), Sandals by Mossimo at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Bag at a beach shop (San Diego, California.)

Fashion Tip:  Every now and then it's grounding to wear earth tones, long crystal necklaces, and wavy hair in honor of the beauty that is nature.

My Style: White on White

Today's Look:  is sweet and happy.  The outfit consists of a white '60s inspired blouse that has sequined white flowers with yellow middles.  To keep a sweetness about the outfit, I paired the blouse with white lace, high-waisted shorts.  The shorts complimented rather than fought since the whites were the same color.  Trying to pull out the yellow centers of the sequined flowers, I wore gold sandals.  Finishing off the look, I wore a white purse, gold/ white bracelet, two rings, and mother of pearl earrings.

Outfit Details:  Top by Mono B at Basement Market Place (Flagstaff, Arizona), Shorts by Must Have at P.J. Chilcottage (Flagstaff, Arizona). Sandals by Delia's at delias.com, Bracelet at Charlotte Russe (Scottsdale, Arizona), Purse at Charming Charlies (Scottsdale, Arizona), Earrings were a gift.

Fashion Tip:  White on white can feel cleansing and pristine, as well as happy.

My Style: Wild Child

Today's Look:  is all about the animal printed high-wasited shorts.  The unique rust color of the denim and metal studs sewn onto the sides really makes the piece pop.  Since the shorts are intricate, I chose a simple black v-neck shirt to match, not pulling attention away.  To go along with a jungle inspired theme, I wore my black combat boots, black fringe purse, and a tarnished gold tribal necklace.  Even though the outfit only consists of two colors, black and rust, it is far from dull.  The animal print studded shorts, suede fringe purse, boots, and wild necklace all make the outfit interesting and work without needing more colors.  To finish off the look, I braided my hair to the side leaving wisps out framing my face for a more casual, messy look.

Outfit Details:  Shorts by Rehab Clothing at urbanog.com, Top by Mossimo at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Boots by Steve Madden at Nordstrom (Scottsdale, Arizona), Purse by American Eagle at ae.com, Earrings by EarthBound Trading Co. (Flagstaff, Arizona), Necklace at World Market (Prescott, Arizona).

Fashion Tip:  When wearing patterned shorts, make sure to wear a top that not only matches the shorts, but also compliments rather than distracts from.

My Style: Hello Kitty

Today's Look:  is all about Hello Kitty!  I have been a Hello Kitty fan for a while now, so I have a nice collection building of memorabilia, such as a stuffed animal, necklace, shirt, watch, pair of PJ's, etc.  Since I dressed somewhat dark yesterday, I felt like being bright and girly today.  Hello Kitty was perfect.  To start the outfit off, I chose my white top with pink and blue detailing, along with my turquoise jean shorts to match.  If you're going to fangirl it up, I believe in going all out, so I wore my Hello Kitty necklace as well as my Hello Kitty watch.  Finishing off the look, I wore a pink heart ring, white sandals, and a bright pink Betsey purse.

Outfit Details:  Shirt by Sanrio at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Shorts by Levi's at Macy's (Scottsdale, Arizona), Sandals by Merona at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Watch and Necklace both gifts, Purse by Betsey Johnson at betseyjohnson.com, Ring at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona).

Fashion Tip:  To make an outfit unique or have a special touch, be creative by matching your manicure with your outfit.

My Style: Tie Dye & Skulls

Today's Look:  is all about the tie-dyed copper, collared blouse that is covered with skulls.  The shirt, one of my favorites, has two pockets along with metal flourishes at the edge of the collar.  To match the skulls theme and black detailing throughout the shirt, I wore jeweled black sandals that helped dress up the casual look.  Contrasting with the edgy top and sandals, I chose to wear white lace shorts to add some sweetness.  Finishing off the look, I wore gold diamond bow earrings, two rings, and my favorite Betsey purse.

Outfit Details:  Blouse by Mono B at Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Shorts by Must Have at P.J. Chilcottage (Flagstaff, Arizona), Sandals by Betsey Johnson at 6pm.com, Earrings and Purse by Betsey Johnson at betseyjohnson.com.

Fashion Tip:  Think of fashion as an art, instead of a daily task.  Clothing can be used as self expression.

My Style: Pretty in Pink

Today's Look: celebrates flowers, lace, and pink.  Being feminine and girly isn't something to be avoided or shy of; it should be embraced.  So today, I just felt like wearing pink.  To start the outfit off, I chose a floral printed, dip-dyed pink skirt that hits at the waist and comes with a belt.  I wore a button-up, floral patterned, lace sheer blouse that has a light pink strip at the collar and cuffs.  I rolled up the sleeves to make the look more casual and tucked the shirt in.  Finishing off the look, I wore my cream colored purse, pearl earrings, and silver sandals.

Outfit Details:  Shirt by Monteau at P.J. Chilcottage (Flagstaff, Arizona), Skirt by Naranka at P.J. Chilcottage, Sandals by Montego Bay Club at Payless (Prescott, Arizona), Purse by Charming Charlie's (Scottsdale, Arizona).

Fashion Tip:  Wearing florals with florals is a major summer fashion trend.

My Style: A Modern Twist

Today's Look:  is a modern twist on the old classic, a pair of blue jeans and a white shirt.  The combination of a white top with a pair of blue jeans will forever be in style, but the individual pieces themselves have changed throughout the decades.  The blue jeans have become lower-cut and bedazzled while the shirts are continuously evolving.  Starting out, I picked a faded pair of dark blue skinny jeans and an off-white crochet, embellished top. To match the color and metal on the top, I wore tarnished gold earrings, an off-white bracelet, and two rings.  Finishing off the look the look, I wore brown leather boots with my fringe suede purse.

Outfit Details:  Shirt by Staring at Stars at Urban Outfitters, Jeans by Levi's at Macy's,  Bracelet and Earrings at Target, Boots by OTBT, Purse by Steve Madden at Nordstrom.

Fashion Tip:   When in doubt or in a rush, a white blouse with a pair of blue jeans is always a solid choice.

My Style: Hand of Peace

Today's Look:  is all about the shirt which features the Hand of Peace and Eye of Truth.  The shirt's intricate design stands out with thick black lining and gold detailing on bright turquoise material with a jersey cut. Matching the black on the shirt, I wore my black skinny jeans and suede ankle boots.  Since the outfit is mostly turquoise, black, and gold, I wore a very colorful bag that features reds, greens, yellows, blues, and even white. Finishing off the look, I accessorized with gold/turquoise earrings and two rings.

Outfit Details:  Shirt by Fifth Sun at Target (Prescott, AZ), Pants by Else at Macy's (Scottsdale, AZ), Boots by Steve Madden at 6pm.com,  Earrings by With Love from California at Pacsun (Tucson, AZ).

Fashion Tip:  Black boots with a slight heel worn with black skinny jeans help lengthen as well as slenderize the appearance of your legs.
