My Style: Tribal Vibes

Today's Look:  is all about rocking self-confidence.  After meeting at the Spring into Fashion show hosted by Phoenix Fashion Week a couple of months ago, I have kept in contact and have enjoyed collaborating with AshIey Lane.   I received this beautiful knit, leopard print skirt from Ashley Lane Company and carefully thought about styling it with a tribal necklace, lace-up sandals, and a flowing, black top.  An important element of this ensemble is the confidence—you have to own it.  In this outfit I feel edgy and yet comfortable.  I recommend soft knits for spring—look beautiful and move gracefully.  Be sure to check out more fashion, accessories, and fabulousness from Ashley Lane Company here:  AshleyLaneCompany.com.  Xoxo, Shelly

My Style: Velvet & Thigh-Highs

Today's Look:  emphasizes the beautiful shimmer of velvet, plus the intricacy and color of pattern.  To start the look off, I chose a belted, skater skirt with a black lace trim.  The skirt features a design filled with blues, blacks, white, pinks, magenta, and dashes of burgundy.  Second, I chose a burgundy, velvet crop-top.  Since it was a chilly fall day, I chose black, thigh-high socks and black, lace-up ankle boots.  Finishing off the look, I wore multicolored-crystal, dangle earrings, a dark metal bracelet, two rings, and a black clutch.

Outfit Details:  Skirt c/o Charlotte Russe ,  Top by Basil Lola at Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Ankle Boots by Grey City at nastygal.com, Clutch & Socks at oasap.com, Earrings from Charming Charlie (Scottsdale, Arizona), "Love" Ring from Earthbound Trading Co. (Flagstaff, Arizona), "Faith" Ring from Premiere Designs Jewelry, Bracelet was a gift.

Fashion Tip:  Thigh-high socks and stockings can add warmth and sex appeal to many outfits.  See examples below and try to be a little daring this week :)

My Style: Skulls & Stripes

Today's Look:  is all about the sparkly, graphic crop-top and pastel-striped skirt from Charlotte Russe.  To start the look off, I first chose the light pink, skull top.  I love how the top has such a sweet, feminine color that contrasts with the edginess of the skull.  Next, I chose the pastel-colored skater skirt.  The skirt is embellished with buttons down the front and a woven belt.  Since the belt comes with the skirt, I chose to wear my brown, high-heeled sandals to match.  Continuing with the boho accessories to contrast with my preppy skirt and pink top, I chose to wear my crocheted, side-sling purse.  Finishing off the outfit, I wore a studded bracelet, bow earrings, and two rings.

Fashion Tip:  When wearing a striped skirt, try to have the top match one or two of the colors of the skirt.  If the skirt is black and white, try to wear a different color top or different stripes or prints to add variety to the outfit.

Below, I included a collage of striped skirts and their links.

My Style: The 411 on Navy with Black

Today's Look:  is all about breaking the rules.  One of my favorite fashion rules to break is the "Never wear navy with black" rule.  Many people in business wear navy suits and black shoes and don't match them with a black belt, or wear brown shoes with black socks.  When doing so, they are considered to be doing a faux pas or fashion suicide.  When done correctly, the colors navy blue and black look great together.

To start the look off, I chose my navy high-low blouse and gray, whitewashed miniskirt.  I loved how the top was loose, as well as long in the back and how the form-fitting skirt looked nice underneath it.  In honor of back to school, I wore my black, studded backpack and black high-heeled ankle boots to add some edge.  Finishing off the look, I wore a beaded pendant necklace, a silver fish bracelet, three rings, and a spiked, black headband.

Outfit Details:  Top at Forever 21 (Tucson, Arizona), Skirt by Nollie at PacSun (Scottsdale, Arizona), Boots at Charlotte Russe (Tucson, Arizona), Backpack by Pink at Victoria's Secret (Prescott, Arizona), Necklace at Buckle (Prescott, Arizona), Headband at Claire's (Tucson, Arizona),  Earrings at Fancy That (Prescott, Arizona), Stone Ring at Disney Vault 28 (Anaheim, California), Band Rings at Aeropostale (Tucson, Arizona).

Fashion Tip:  When wearing navy with black,  make sure to pull each color into the outfit.  For example I pulled the black ankle boots in by wearing a black backpack.  Also, a loose high-low blouse is perfect to wear with a tight mini skirt.  The blouse not only makes the skirt more modest, but it also makes a unique outfit.

Below, I included more outfit ideas of how to rock black and navy together.

My Style: Boho Babe

Today's Look:  is all about the beauty of bohemian inspired style.  To start the look off, I chose my loose, flowing, off-white blouse and lace skater skirt.  Even though the outfit hides the waist, the peek-a-boo of the legs makes up for it.  Since the top and skirt are monochromatic, I wanted to add color into the outfit through the accessories.  I chose an intricately woven, spiked necklace that has purples, pinks, and greens braided throughout it, and my patchwork backpack that I bought at a Guatemalan shop in Texas last summer.  Finishing off the look, I wore knee high socks with red and white striped tops that peered over my leather boots slightly, two off-white bracelets, two tarnished gold rings, and braided my hair.

Outfit Details:  Top and Skirt at American Eagle (Tucson, Arizona), Boots by OTBT at zappos.com, Necklace at Earthbound Trading Co. (Sedona, Arizona), Thin Bracelet at American Eagle, Beaded Bracelet at Claire's (Prescott, Arizona), Rings at Aeropostale (Scottsdale, Arizona), Backpack at Market Square (San Antonio, Texas).

Fashion Tip:  When wearing high boots with a skirt, remember to wear long socks.  They not only add to the outfit, but also make the boots more comfortable against your skin.  Below, I included a collage of boho items, as well as a link to get to them.

My Style: Pretty in Pink

Today's Look: celebrates flowers, lace, and pink.  Being feminine and girly isn't something to be avoided or shy of; it should be embraced.  So today, I just felt like wearing pink.  To start the outfit off, I chose a floral printed, dip-dyed pink skirt that hits at the waist and comes with a belt.  I wore a button-up, floral patterned, lace sheer blouse that has a light pink strip at the collar and cuffs.  I rolled up the sleeves to make the look more casual and tucked the shirt in.  Finishing off the look, I wore my cream colored purse, pearl earrings, and silver sandals.

Fashion Tip:  Wearing florals with florals is a major summer fashion trend.

My Style: Denim & Tulle

Today's Look:  is all about contrasting the delicate tulle skirt with the denim shirt.  It was my cousin's college graduation day, and my whole family attended.  Since it was a short ceremony at a community college, the dress code was casual. I still wanted to look well dressed for the occasion, so I definitely wanted to wear a skirt or dress.  I first chose the white floral skirt, then the denim top that tucked neatly underneath.  To match the black waist line on the skirt, I chose to wear my black military boots and opaque tights to finish off the look.

Outfit Details:  Skirt by Moon Collections at P.J. Chilcottage (Flagstaff, Arizona), Top by Mossimo at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Boots by Steve Madden at nordstrom.com, Tights by Merona at Target, Necklace by BP. at Nordstrom (Scottsdale, Arizona) Purse & Earrings by Betsey Johnson at betseyjohnson.com.

Fashion Tip:  When buying a denim top try to pick one that is of good quality but also thin.  Thin denim tops are cooler, more flattering, and easier to tuck in.
