People's Choice #FashionFOMO Episode

Happy Tuesday my fashionable peeps.  My #FashionFOMO episode is officially here!  Back in October, I collaborated with VIMBY (Video In My Backyard) and People's Choice to film an episode on how Vanessa Hudgens's style inspires me for the People's Choice web series.  The prep for the filming included emailing back and forth, brainstorming how to show Vanessa's diverse range of bohemian style, and phone calls going over locations and script.  It was my first experience with a whole film crew, detailed script, and booked locations.  It was a total blast!  The crew included Noel Jean, field producer, Dave Stone, filmmaker, Carlos Soto, production assistant, and Danielle Valiente, hair/makeup.  Everyone was so wonderful to work with and made me feel comfortable which is very important when filming.  The vibe on the set is major in my opinion.  Noel was a wonderful, friendly director and Dave and Carlos were very kind and funny!  And for Danielle, I want her to do my makeup and hair everyday.  Seriously.  I need her.  For the interview portion, the crew along with lights and camera equipment all had to squeeze into my closet; luckily it's a walk in.  haha  For the outfit footage, we shot at popular spots around my hometown, including the "Art for All" mural downtown, Courthouse Square, and Watson Lake.  Below are some behind the scenes photos.  Enjoy!   Xoxo, Shelly

Brand Highlight: Delikate Rayne

Being a fashion addict, I always love to keep up with hot trends and new emerging brands!  Recently, I stumbled upon Delikate Rayne (pronounced "delicate rain").  Delikate Rayne is a fashion brand created by two sisters, Komie and Meg, with the mission not only to dress women impeccably but also to help create and encourage a cruelty-free fashion industry.  The brand uses premium vegan-only materials.

I think Delikate Rayne's mission is beautiful and important.  Their designs are chic, sophisticated, and interesting.  I definitely recommend checking out their website delikaterayne.com and watching their promo video featuring America's Next Top Model Hannah Jones below!

Style Crush Saturday: Gabrielle Union

Style Crush:  Gabrielle Union
Known For:  Actress; role as Kristen in Think like a Man
Style:  Sophisticated, Sexy, Feminine

This week's Style Crush is the gorgeous Gabrielle Union.  Gabrielle is a 41-year old American actress and model, who is best known for her attention-catching roles in the cheer movie sensation Bring it On opposite Kirtsen Dunst and the star-studded, hit comedy Think Like a Man.  Growing up in a family of four girls, Gabrielle shone as the year-round, star athlete at her high school, being point guard on the girls' basketball team, playing soccer, and running track.  After high school, Gabrielle attended college in Nebraska, but eventually transferred to UCLA in Los Angeles, California.  While working her way through college to earn a sociology degree, Gabrielle started as a model after interning for a model and talent agency.  The agency's owner recognized Gabrielle's stunning, as well as intellectual, attributes and immediately got her into acting.  She began her acting career by getting supporting roles in teen movies like She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Love and Basketball.  In 2000, Gabrielle got her big break by being cast as Isis in Bring it On.  Since then, Gabrielle has gone on to guest star in TV shows such as Friends, Ugly Betty, and Army Wives, star in her own TV show Being Mary Jane, star in the hit movies Bad Boys II, The Perfect Holiday, and Think like a Man, and win multiple awards including Best Actress at the Palm Beach International Film Festival.

In addition to earning respect for her work, Gabrielle has an attitude and realness that has earned her the respect of her peers.  This past June, Gabrielle was awarded the "Fierce & Fearless Award" at the Black Women in Hollywood Pre-Oscars luncheon where she gave a very open and honest acceptance speech.  The crowd, filled with her fellow actresses, friends, family, and idols, cried and laughed along, and ended the event in a standing ovation for Gabrielle.  Gabrielle is respected because she isn't afraid to show her weaknesses and imperfections.  At the age of 19, Gabrielle was sexually assaulted at gunpoint, and she admits that for awhile she was lost.  After going through such a traumatic experience, Gabrielle is now a spokesperson for survivors of assault.  Gabrielle believes you have to fight for happiness and that is what she does.  After dating for years, NBA player Dwayne Wade proposed to his love, Gabrielle, in December 2013 with a 8.5 carat diamond ring.  The happy couple has been spotted together out and about more in love than ever.  Gabrielle is truly a remarkable woman and I respect her courage, strength, and style.

Below, I Included Gabrielle's acceptance speech for the Fierce & Fearless Award.  I definitely recommend giving it a watch.  It's the first bluntly honest and raw speech that I have seen in awhile.  If the video cuts out at the very end, watch the full speech here.

Style Crush Saturday: Justin TImberlake

Style Crush:  Justin Timberlake
Known For:  Singer, Songwriter, Actor
Style:  Sleek, Sophisticated, City-chic

This week's Style Crush is the charming Justin Timberlake.  Justin is a 32-year old American singer, songwriter, and actor who came to fame by being the predominate singer of the 1990's boy-band sensation 'N Sync. Loving music from a young age, Justin started performing at local fairs and talent contests at the age of 8.  By age 12, Justin had earned a part on The New Mickey Mouse Club, alongside Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and JC Chasez (future fellow 'N Sync member.)  The show was canceled, causing Justin to move onto his next venture, forming the 5 member group 'N Sync in 1995.  The group became a world-wide success.  'N Sync went on to release three chart-topping albums, including *NSYNC, No Strings Attached, and Celebrity, perform at the Academy Awards, the Oscars, and the Super Bowl, and sell over 50 million records worldwide.  The band was recognized as the third best-selling boy band in history before breaking up in 2002.  Justin gained so much respect and popularity during 'N Sync that he continued on in music with a solo career and released the album Justified which included the hits "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body." He then released FutureSex/LoveSounds which included the top singles "SexyBack", "My Love", and "What Goes Around...Comes Around".  Both albums received numerous awards, including four American Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, four Grammys and an Emmy.  After much success in the music industry, Justin decided to pursue his acting career while taking a few years off from writing and recording music.  Justin went on to star and appear in multiple movies over the years, including dramas Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan, as well as blockbusters such as The Love GuruThe Social NetworkBad TeacherFriends with Benefits and many more.

In addition to continued success with both music and acting, Justin has been blessed in his personal life.  After having heavily publicized relationships with superstar Britney Spears 2000-2002 and actress/model Cameron Diaz 2004-2007, Justin met his true love, actress Jessica Biel.  The two started dating in 2007 and exchanged their I-Do's in October of 2012 during a beautiful ceremony in Italy.  Justin wrote a special song to his wife specifically for the ceremony, which led to Justin writing many more songs inspired by his past and his future.  In 2013, Justin released the hit albums 20/20 Experience 1 and 2 with the hit singles "Suit and Tie (featuring Jay-Z)," "Mirror," "TKO," and "Take Back the Night."   Justin has said after taking years off from writing music, he didn't expect much from his new material, but once he started recording again, he knew he was onto something big.  The albums have already won three American Music Awards, three MTV Music Video Awards, and are nominated for numerous others.  Justin is currently touring the world to promote the 20/20 Experience and continues to inspire and create.  I respect his art and enjoy his work.  He's definitely one stylish, talented dude!

My Style: Run Away With Me

Today's Look:  is in honor of the holiday season.  Since it was Thanksgiving this past weekend, my brother was in town, so of course we had to do some photoshoots.  Along with the holidays comes parties--Thanksgiving get-togethers, Christmas parties, and New Year's Eve bashes.  Every girl needs to be prepared to be well dressed for each occasion.  Now, instead of going out and buying a new dress, check your closet.  From dances like prom, homecoming, and military balls to weddings, church functions, and family reunions, girls accumulate quite the dress collection.  For this look, I wore a purple, strapless dress that I had bought for a formal dance.  To restyle the dress and make it all new, I wore a velvet, black crop top over the corset portion. I liked how the top not only added modesty, but it also added a modern edge.  Matching the top, I wore black strappy heels and a sleek clutch.  Finishing off the look, I wore a heart pendant necklace, bedazzled bracelets, two rings, and crystal earrings.

Outfit Details:  Dress from Arden B (Scottsdale, Arizona), Top by Basil Lola at Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Shoes from Express (Scottsdale, Arizona), Clutch at oasap.com, Earrings from Aeropostale (Tucson, Arizona), Black Crystal Ring from Earth Bound (Flagstaff, Arizona), Clear Crystal Ring by Brighton at Fancy That (Prescott, Arizona), Bracelets & Necklace were gifts.

Fashion Tip:  Reusing a prom dress or homecoming dress is not only money-saving, but it's also fun!  When shopping for prom and homecoming dresses, enjoy the experience while trying to find something re-usable.

My Style: Gold Digger

Today's Look:  is all about the gold!  To start the look off, I first chose the gold, knit sweater and thick, taupe scarf.  The scarf features a metallic gold coat which shimmers in the light and looks beautiful with the sweater.  If you're thinking of buying a new scarf for the holidays, I definitely recommend gold.  A gold scarf dresses up an outfit, goes with a lot, and adds sparkle.  Since the sweater is loosely knitted, it's see through. I chose a taupe tank top for coverage, as well as to match the taupe coloring of the scarf.  To contrast with the bright coloring of the gold, I wore navy skinny jeans.  Next, I chose taupe, suede ankle boots and a fringe purse.  Finishing off the look, I wore a leopard print ring, a gold band, and golden leaf-shaped, dangle earrings.

Outfit Details:  Sweater by Mine at Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Pants by Levi's at Macy's (Scottsdale, Arizona), Tank Top from Forever 21 (Scottsdale, Arizona), Scarf by Karma at Basement Marketplace, Platform Boots by Jeffrey Campbell at nastygal.com, Purse by Steve Madden at nastygal.com, Leopard Ring from Charming Charlie (Scottsdale, Arizona),  Gold Band from Premiere Designs, Earrings were a gift.

Fashion Tip:  Gold and taupe are a terrific pair.  The combination is especially great for fall and winter!

Red Carpet Fashion: AMAs 2013

On Sunday, September 25, 2013, ABC hosted and aired its annual American Music Awards (AMAs).  The hottest musicians, actors/actresses, and TV personalities were in attendance.  Unlike the Grammys, whose awards are given based on the votes from members of the Recording Academy, the AMAs are determined by votes from the public and music buyers.  The show had unforgettable performances from Katy Perry, One Direction, Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons, Pitbull & Kesha, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and many more!  You can watch the performances from the awards show here.  It was an exciting night filled with music, celebrities, and, of course, fashion.  Below, I included some of the most memorable outfits from the event.  Enjoy!
