My Style: Monochromatique

In Arizona, the holiday season is in full swing, and I’m so enjoying being on winter break from university.  I have time to shop, decorate the Christmas tree, help address greeting cards, attend parties, laugh with great friends, and enjoy all the other seasonal activities.  As my longtime readers know, I love trying different styles and experimenting with fashion to see what I like and what I don't.    I'm pretty outgoing when it comes to clothes.  Lately, I have been having fun with the grunge style, but for this look I felt like going more city chic/street style.  Nothing beats a heather gray sweater hoody, coated denim skinny jeans with zipper detailing, a soft cotton white tee, and sleek leather booties.  To be city chic and yet totally comfortable is the goal of great street style.  Throw on a wide-brimmed fedora and a studded fringe purse and you are set for a fab, cozy day.  Now, I'm off to do more Christmas gift shopping. . . . Xoxo, Shelly

My Style: Living Doll LA x AZ Girl (& Glamour Dolls Review)

Today’s Look:  is about finally finding the perfect little bowler hat. Some believe that the bowler hat, also known as a bob hat, derby, billycock, or bombin, was designed in Britain in the mid-1800s. Thomas and William Bowler designed a hat to protect gamekeepers’ heads from branches while walking or riding horseback in the woods.  Top hats were worn previously and were easily knocked off.  Nowadays, this little hat is worn purely for style by most people, myself included.  To the outfit, I added a sweet striped top by Living Doll with a faux-leather jacket and tasseled oxford flats.  Being the risk-taking rebel that I am, I wore white after Labor Day; in the fashion world it's now acceptable and even encouraged to wear "winter whites."  I think shredded white jeans are essential for fall.  For accessories, I added a delicate necklace and layered bracelets, including an evil eye charm that is said to ward off bad karma.  Last but not least, I enjoyed trying out some new makeup from Glamour Dolls.  See my product review below on the makeup.  ALSO, use discount code "ARIZONAGIRL10" to get 10% off your purchase from LivingDoll.La.  Hope you’re having a terrific week!  Xoxo, Shelly

Beauty Review:  Normally I keep to neutrals when doing my make-up--browns, nudes, and black.  I enjoyed trying light violet and was impressed with how much I liked it.  The 5 color palette I'm wearing is called "Off with His Head - Smokey Purple."  Glamour Dolls prides itself on being very affordable.  Although the eye shadow's full vibrance is not long lasting, I liked that it created a light coverage that was pretty but not too much; perfect for school days and casual outings.  A quick reapplication every couple of hours solves the problem.  I love wearing makeup but am not a fan of caking it on (unless it's a fancy/special occasion),  I truly believe less is more on a day-to-day basis.  For eyeliner, I  tried the "Gypsy Eyeliner Black & White".  The black went on nicely and did not have too harsh of an appearance.  My favorite of the goodies I reviewed is definitely the lip cream!  The lip cream feels smooth like lip conditioner but looks as beautiful and bold as lipstick.  The color is rich with a light sheen.  For this shoot, the color I wore is called "Karma - Deep Plum."  Overall, I am very pleased with Glamour Dolls!  Fabulous price, fabulous makeup.  Check out their website here.   Powered by BrandBacker

Brand Highlight: Delikate Rayne

Being a fashion addict, I always love to keep up with hot trends and new emerging brands!  Recently, I stumbled upon Delikate Rayne (pronounced "delicate rain").  Delikate Rayne is a fashion brand created by two sisters, Komie and Meg, with the mission not only to dress women impeccably but also to help create and encourage a cruelty-free fashion industry.  The brand uses premium vegan-only materials.

I think Delikate Rayne's mission is beautiful and important.  Their designs are chic, sophisticated, and interesting.  I definitely recommend checking out their website delikaterayne.com and watching their promo video featuring America's Next Top Model Hannah Jones below!

My Style: Denim on Denim

Today's Look:  shows how to stay casually chic while keeping warm in the winter.  First, I chose the light chambray top and dark denim jeans.  To contrast with the blue denims, I chose to wear a cozy camel coat.  Matching the camel coat's coloring, I chose studded, leopard print oxford flats.  I love how the sophisticated cut of the shoes compliments the playful print.  I accessorized with simple pearl earrings, sassy sunglasses, two rings, a bracelet, and a burgundy cross-body wallet for a pop of color.  Pulling it all together, I wore an infinity scarf featuring a tribal design including navy blue, olive green, light brown, and crisp white.

Outfit Details:  Wallet and Pearl Earrings courtesy of Charlotte Russe , Top by Mossimo Supply Co. at target.com, Jeans by Levi's at Macy's (Tucson, Arizona), Coat by Anne Klein at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona), Shoes by Gianni Bini at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona), Scarf at Urban Outfitters (Tucson, Arizona), Wrapped Ring from World Market (Prescott, Arizona), Band Ring from AĆ©ropostale (Tucson, Arizona), Sunglasses from Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Bracelet at Foot Fetish (Prescott, Arizona).

Fashion Tip:  When wearing a denim top with denim pants, for best results make sure the pants are a shade darker for contrast;  not only to distinguish the two from one another, but a darker shade on the jeans can be more flattering.
