My Style: Velvet and Leather

This past weekend I traveled to California for my older brother's wedding.  This is my first January #CharlotteLook and I was so excited that I got to shoot it at a beautiful resort in Southern Cal.  I teamed up with Charlotte Russe to style head-to-toe looks.  This velvet dress was a perfect choice for the trip.  It was comfy for traveling and exploring the city and then stunning when dressed up with heels for the rehearsal dinner that same night.  I got multiple compliments from fellow bridesmaids and family members.  The studded fringe purse, moto jacket, and boots were also a hit during the day.  The whole wedding weekend was lovely and the wedding itself was a true fairytale.  I can't wait to share photos from all the festivities.  My welcome back to Arizona after the best weekend was spring semester of college starting.  Talk about UGH.  haha  Hope you're all staying happy and healthy being back at school or work after the holidays.  Xoxo, Shelly

My Style: Velours Rouge

Today's Look:  was styled with one of the hottest trends in mind: 90's grunge.  First, I started with this stunning red crushed velvet dress from Immediate Fashion Company.  The ankle length hem and spaghetti straps reminded me so much of 1990's styling which totally called for platform sandals and a choker.  To update the staple pieces of the classic ensemble, I wore leather platforms with nice thick straps and a layered choker made of leather with a silver-plated, bedazzled bead; back in the '90s, platform flip flops and plastic chokers were all the rage.  I styled the dress, sandals, and necklace with a skull lace kimono, multiple rings, a silver cuff bracelet, and a jewelry hair clip from Floaters, which gave the look a slightly more bohemian vibe.  For any readers who may have missed my previous post featuring Immediate Fashion Company, they recently opened a new location at 2000 East Broadway Boulevard in Tucson, Arizona!  I definitely recommend giving them a look and anyone can shop their online store at http://www.immediatefashioncompany.com/.  Originally based in California, the store has such friendly customer service, kind owners, and darling clothes.   It's so exciting to see them expanding, and I can't wait to visit their Tucson store this summer!

Fashion Tip:  I was so excited to showcase my first Floaters's hair accessory in this post, because I truly think they are the new "it" accessory.  Anyone else remember when everyone came back to school after summer vacation with a feather weaved into their hair or the dyed neon color hair strip fad?  Well, Floaters are way better than both of those, because they can easily be clipped on or off of your hair, they come in all different designs and lengths, and they are beautiful jewelry.  If you want to start a new trend at your school or in your town, then get yours ASAP at http://www.hairfloaters.com/.

Last but not least, I tried something new this week!  To show you how Floaters's hair accessories work, I made a short video demonstrating how easy the hair jewelry can be clipped on and off.  It's a little over a minute, so short and sweet.  Check it out below :)

My Style: Denim Overalls & Velvet

Today's Look:  shows how to work comfy, loose overalls into a street-chic outfit.  For the look, I started with the overalls.  I am loving the overalls trend that is resurfacing in the sleek streets of New York and the sunny hills of California, so I couldn't wait to rock these.  This particular pair of overalls is a moderate boyfriend fit, meaning not overly baggy or large.  Since the overalls are modest, I chose a velvet crop-top that lets just a hint of skin be visible from my hips to my waist.  To match the acid-washed, black denim and burgundy velvet, I picked black floral Vans.  I like how the sneakers gave the look a flirty tomboy feel.  Finishing off the look, I chose a black clutch, bedazzled sunglasses, a shimmery bracelet, skull earrings, and multiple rings.

Outfit Details:  Overalls by Bullhead Denim Co. at PacSun (Scottsdale, Arizona), Top by Basil Lola at Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Shoes by Vans at Journeys (Prescott, Arizona), Clutch from oasap.com, Sunglasses from Old Navy (Tucson, Arizona),  Earrings by Wet Seal at Blink (Anaheim, California), Black Ring at Earthbound Trading co. (Flagstaff, Arizona), Big Ring at Bealls (Prescott, Arizona), Faith Ring from Premiere Designs, Nails by Impress Nails at Walgreens (Prescott, Arizona), Eyeliner called Perfect Wear Eyewriter and Super Extend Infinitize Mascara from Avon, Bracelet and Midi Ring were gifts.

Fashion Tip:  Trying a new makeup technique or style can feel refreshing and transform an outfit to another level.  I have a normal makeup routine that I have become comfortable with, not too heavy, but effective.  For this look, I wanted to try something new and out of my comfort zone.  I have always loved how winged eyeliner seems dramatic and elegant.  Since I am a newbie to this technique, I followed a YouTube tutorial (which I included below).

My Style: Dr. Martens Special

Today's Look:  has multiple statement pieces, from the velvet-tiger sweatshirt, spiked backpack, white Dr. Martens, to the "Fearless" charm bracelet.  Today's outfit is special, because my brother, who is a professional photographer and videographer, is in town visiting.  He was the photographer of today's photo-shoot.  To start the look off, I chose my light gray, embellished sweatshirt and white-washed, charcoal skinny jeans.  Next, I chose my white leather boots, spiked backpack, and white/black, charm bracelet.  Since the outfit is edgy, I wore my hair in loose curls to soften the look.  Finishing off the outfit, I wore three rings, black stud earrings, and cat-eye sunglasses.

Outfit Details:  Top by Forever 21 (Tucson, Arizona), Pants by Express (Scottsdale, Arizona), Boots by Dr. Martens at choicestore.co.uk, Backpack by River Island at riverisland.com, Sunglasses at Forever 21, Bracelets by BCBGeneration at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona), Rings and Earrings at Aeropostale (Tucson, Arizona).

Fashion Tip:  If you're in the United States and considering buying Dr. Martens, it's somewhat of an ordeal.  Not only is it difficult to decide what color to pick, but it is also difficult to figure out what size to buy.  Dr. Martens come in so many different shapes, colors, and patterns, and only are sold in U.K. whole sizes. Even though so many funky options are out there, when buying Dr. Martens, I recommend going with a solid color in the classic cut.  I'd say red and black are the two most popular colors of the brand.  Now, with which shoe size to buy, it can be tricky.  I researched the comparisons of U.K. sizes to U.S. and came to the conclusion that the U.K. sizes are one below the U.S. sizes.  Therefore meaning, a U.K. 7 is equal to a  U.S. 8.  I am a 6-6.5 so I bought a U.K. 5 and it fits great.  Even if you order your boots online, I definitely recommend going into a local store to try on a pair, making sure you like the fit.
