My Style: Pop of Plaid

Today's Look:  shows how to take a monochromatic outfit and transform it into a perfect 90's grunge ensemble by adding a pop of plaid.  First, I chose the black top from Blush Boutique.  The crop top has a simple tank top look in the front while the back features a cute heart cutout.  I love how the unique back makes the top feminine and sexy.  Next, I chose a black bodycon skirt and edgy heels.  Adding some tomboy to the look, I tied a red plaid shirt around my waist and matched it with some red hot lipstick.  Finishing off the look, I accessorized with gold and black dangling earrings, a gold cuff, multiples rings, and a gold cellphone case from Clique Shops.  For my readers in high school, I hope you all had a blast or are going to have a blast at prom!  I always love seeing the dresses every year.  As for me, I have one last final exam to trudge through tomorrow and then it is summer vacation!  Xoxo, Shelly

My Style: Roses are Red

Today's Look:  is all about creating a Valentine's Day outfit that is worthy of Blair from Gossip Girl.  Being a strong, fearless trendsetter, Blair was always my favorite character.  What better way to find fashion inspiration than the fictional OG of fashion herself.  To start the look off, I first chose the sleek, leatherette skater skirt and sophisticated black blouse.  I always love mixing edgy pieces with classic ones.  Next, I chose opaque black tights and cut-out ankle booties.  Not quite done with winter, the Arizona breeze still has a certain bitter chill in it.  To stay warm, while fabulous, I chose a plaid peacoat that brings together burgundy, black, and red.  Finishing off the look, I wore a red and gold detailed purse, a gold watch, two rings, and gold stud earrings.  Now, all I need is a Valentine's date. . . Harry Styles, call me ;)

Fashion Tip:  For a chic and cozy Valentine's Day outfit, burgundy is a great way to dress in the spirit of the holiday while not being over-the-top.

My Style: Red, White, and Blue

Today's Look:  is all about celebrating the 4th of July.  To start the look off, I chose my red crop-top.  The shirt has a v-neck and a faded effect that gives it a unique appearance.  Going along with the crop-top, I chose my high-waisted black skirt and cut-off, light denim vest. The light denim vest added the blue in the outfit, while the top and stud earrings added the red.  Since I wanted the outfit to have all three 4th of July colors, red, white, and blue, I incorporated the white by wearing white sandals, a white bracelet, and a white fringe purse.

Outfit Details:  Top by Milky Way USA at urbanog.com, Skirt by Cemi Ceri at urbanog.com, Vest by Yes! Miss at Charlotte Russe (Scottsdale, Arizona), Purse by Wet Seal at Blink (Anaheim, California), Sandals by Merona at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Bracelet at Charlotte Russe.

Fashion Tip:  If you are from the U.S.A. or visiting and have 4th of July plans, definitely dress patriotic.  Not only does dressing in red, white, and blue show off your American pride and respect, it's also fun and helps you get into the 4th of July spirit.  Today, you might also incorporate a purple ribbon in honor of the 19 Prescott firemen who died in the Yarnell fire.

My Style: Taylor Swift Concert

Today's Look:  was specifically designed for the Taylor Swift Red Tour concert that I attended last night.  Let me just begin by saying WOW!  I was fortunate enough to go to her Fearless Tour back in 2009.  It was my first concert and most amazing thing I had ever seen.  Now four years later, Taylor has become even more phenomenal as a performer and artist if that's possible.  So in honor of her newest album's title as well as her tour's title, Red, I wore the shirt that I bought months ago at Target when I bought her CD.  It's an adult's small, which means it isn't form fitting at all, so I rolled up the sleeves to give it a more feminine look.  I wore black high-waisted shorts (modeled after Taylor's most recent fashion transformation) and tucked the shirt in.  To dress the casual outfit up a tad, I wore a black, metal-studded waist belt and nice sandals rather than flip flops.

Outfit Details:  Shirt by Taylor Swift at Target and store.taylorswift.com, Shorts by Kimchi Blue at Urban Outfitters (Scottsdale, Arizona), Sandals by Montego Bay Club at Payless (Prescott, Arizona), Belt at Mahina (Honolulu, Hawaii).

Fashion Tip:  When getting ready to go to a concert, a lot of girls dress up which I personally think is kind of silly.  Are they trying to compete with the performer?  I don't get it. Plus, tight dresses and heels aren't comfortable to dance in or wear for long periods of time, so it's not practical.  I recommend wearing a shirt with the artist you're going to see on it (if you don't have a shirt with them on it how can you call yourself a fan?), shorts or pants depending on how hot or cold it is outside, and flat shoes because you will be standing, jumping around, and wearing the shoes all night.  You can still look adorable and fangirl it up at the same time.

My Style: Under My Umbrella

Today's Look:  Who said you can't look fashionable on a rainy day?  Today's outfit was almost postponed because of a random rainstorm, but instead of letting the ran ruin my photo-shoot, I adapted.  I grabbed an old umbrella from the garage, and I was more than happy to break in my new Betsey Johnson rain boots.  To pull out the red detailing from the tattoo-like designs on the boots, I wore a cozy red sweater that also matched the umbrella's floral print.  Since light jeans would show wet spots from the rain, I chose my dark navy skinny jeans that fit nicely in the waterproof boots.  I wore bright yellow Betsey earrings to finish off the look.

Outfit Details:  Sweater by Roxy at Pacsun, Jeans by Levi's at Macy's, Rain boots by Betsey Johnson at 6pm.com, Earrings by Betsey Johnson at betseyjohnson.com.

Fashion Tip:  Don't use a rainy day as an excuse to not look fabulous.  Buy a cute pair of rain boots and a fun umbrella, so even if the weather looks gloomy, you look amazing.

My Style: Bright Red Skinny Jeans

Today's Look:  includes a pair of bright red skinny jeans, bedazzled spike necklace, and a shirt with a lace skull on it.  Yesterday, I wore a girly, floral maxi dress, so today I felt like dressing a little rebellious and tougher.  I just bought these skinny jeans after months of searching for the perfect pair and I had been dying to wear them. Since the pants are so bright and happy, I figured wearing them with the dark skull shirt made them less preppy.  Even though I am not a goth or emo, I am in love with this shirt.  It's feminine yet fierce.

Outfit Details:  Pants by Lauren Conrad at Kohl's, Shirt by Express, Boots by Steve Madden, Purse by Betsey Johnson, Necklace by BP at Nordstrom.

Fashion Tip:  Never limit your style by labeling yourself or how you think people expect you to dress.  My style isn't preppy, goth, emo, girly, sporty, or anything that can be described/labeled like that.  My style is influenced by whatever mood I'm in. I always wear what I feel like wearing, which makes my style unique and unpredictable.  Just be you and have fun with fashion!
