My Style: Babydoll Grunge

Today's Look:  was photographed during one of my most memorable photo shoots ever.  I am currently visiting my brother Billy in Los Angeles, California, and we always have such a blast working together.  Billy is a professional photographer and I always enjoy being his model to test out new techniques and bounce ideas off one another.  For this shoot, both of us were inspired by the babydoll plaid dress to try a more grunge/hipster approach and setting to the photos.  I styled the dress with one of my favorite pair of Steve Madden chunky buckle boots and, ironically, socks I was gifted from a past Valentine's Day and thought I'd never wear.  I love how the hearts and ruffles on the socks made the somewhat BA boots more feminine.  I accessorized with multiple necklaces, a couple of rings, my fav wide brimmed hat, and metal-lace rimmed sunglasses.

Outfit Details:  Dress by Audrey from Basement Marketplace | Boots by Steve Madden at 6pm.com | Hat from oasap.com | Layered Necklace by Lucky Brand from Dillard's | Clock Necklace from Urban Outfitters | Silver Ring from Forever 21 | Black Stone Ring from Maurices | Lipstick from Avon | Nails by Impress | Sunglasses by Style Vault from Amazon.com | Socks were a Valentine's Day gift

Fashion Tip:  Ruffled or girly socks worn with chunky black ankle boots create a stunning pair that stands out, elevating you to immediate trendsetter status.

My Style: Stripes on Stripes

Today's Look:  shows how much fun you can have with stripes!  You can't go wrong with a black and white monochromatic outfit.  For this look, the peplum top and striped shorts match so well that the duo resembles a romper.  My favorite new "pièce de résistance" is the clear clutch--super trendy and eye-catching!  Last but not least, have confidence to wear bright red lipstick and nail polish.  One of the most important things about fashion is to keep it fresh and try new things.  Also, I want to say thank you to my blog readers and Instagram followers who have commented positively about my artwork.  Giving me incentive to continue sketching, you have made my week and I adore you all! Xoxo, Shelly

Fashion Tip:  When wearing a monochromatic outfit, consider adding a pop of color by matching your nail polish and lipstick in a bright color, such as vivid red.

My Style: City Hipster

Today's Look: channels the business chic of the city with a quirky flare.  First, I chose a white graphic tee featuring the word "HIPSTER" across the chest in black lettering, accented with red stars.  To match the red stars, I chose my bright red, skinny jeans, which I rolled up at the ankles.  Next, I chose my thin, strappy black heels and black blazer to add a classy yet edgy vibe to the outfit.  Finishing off the look, I wore two rings, silver sparkly studs, and jeweled, black sunglasses.

Fashion Tip:  Adding a black blazer to any outfit adds class that is sure to rack up multiple compliments.

To be fabulous and tailored this fall, below I included a selection of black blazers.

My Style: Grunge Plaid

Today's Look:  is all about the major fall trend of plaid and return of 1990's grunge.  To start the look off, I first chose a white graphic tee featuring the word "FAMOUS" printed across the chest and gray skinny jeans.  Since the morning had a chilly breeze, I wanted to pick a thick, warm coat.  I chose a red plaid peacoat and rolled up the sleeves to make it less wintery and more appropriate for fall.  Next, I chose black military boots, a backpack, and round sunglasses.  Finishing off the look, I wore red lipstick, two rings, black and silver stacked bracelets, and a black gentleman's hat.

Outfit Details: Top c/o Charlotte Russe , Jeans from Express (Scottsdale, Arizona), Jacket from Old Navy (was a gift), Boots by Steve Madden at nordstrom.com, Backpack by PINK at Victoria's Secret (Prescott, Arizona), Hat by Hengshu at oasap.com, Sunglasses from urbanog.com, Earrings at Sally's Beauty Supply (Prescott, Arizona), Rings from Premiere Designs Jewelry, Bracelets were a gift.

Fashion Tip:  Fall weather can be very unpredictable, especially at the beginning of the season.  In the morning, the temperature can be freezing, but in the afternoon, it can be hot.  Because of this, I suggest wearing a nice light top or layers underneath a sweater or coat.  This way you're prepared for the cold, but also can take off your warm pieces to cool off.

This fall, red plaid jackets from preppy to grunge are a major trend.

My Style: Last Days of Summer

Today's Look:  is about celebrating these last few days of summer before fall arrives September 22.  To honor my favorite season, I chose to wear something beachy, fun, and classic.  When I think classic, I often think retro.  I started the look off with the high-waisted, denim shorts and chevron crop-top.  Next, I chose a straw, floppy hat and black, studded wedges. To add a 1950's touch, I wore red lipstick and black, cat-eye sunglasses.  Finishing the outfit, I chose black, flower earrings and straightened my hair to create drama in the look.

Outfit Details:  Crop-Top, Shorts, and Floppy Hat c/o Charlotte Russe , Shoes from shoedazzle.com, Sunglasses from Forever 21 (Tucson, Arizona), Earrings from betseyjohnson.com.

Fashion Tip:  When wearing a big, floppy hat, and dark shades, don't overdo the jewelry.  The hat and sunglasses are the emphasis and don't require much accessorizing.  With the busy, chevron crop-top and button-decorated shorts, the outfit is already detailed; therefore, less is more.

Below, I included a wide selection of floppy hats from stripes to bright red.
