Style Crush: Cher Lloyd
Known For: Singing, Songwriting, Rapping
Style: Punk, Fun, Edgy, Girly
This week's Style Crush is the U.K. native Cher Lloyd. Cher Lloyd rose to fame when she came in fourth place (One Direction finished third) on the seventh season of the British X-Factor. Cher's trademark was her strong personality and unique covers of famous songs, such as Soulja Boy's "Turn My Swag On," Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend," and Eminem's and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie." Even though Cher did not win first place, she was signed to Syco Music shortly thereafter. Her first single "Swagger Jagger" debuted at number one in the U.K. Following the success of her first number one hit, her second single "With Ur Love," featuring Mike Posner, debuted at number four on the U.K. singles chart. Cher Lloyd released her first album Sticks + Stones in 2011, featuring the golden hit single "Want You Back", which introduced Cher to the USA (2012) and led to her worldwide star-status today. Cher stated that she had gained confidence while performing and recording in the U.K., so she was thrilled to take on the challenge of making a name for herself in the United States.
When Cher first came into the public's eye on The X-factor back in 2010, her style was very old-school grunge. The audience's and judges' opinions varied from loving the edgy, from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks vibe, while others liked her voice but wished she'd tidy up her appearance. Staying true to herself, Cher promised to never change the way she dressed because people told her to. Although, overtime her style has become more refined, Cher has always kept her punk, tough trademark. When she wears a colorful, girly ensemble onstage, she styles the looks with chunky, high-top sneakers or dual-toned creepers. Often times, since Cher has a petite frame, she wears mid-drift baring outfits that catch people's eyes. Her colorful, outgoing persona in the U.K. was transformed into a darker, edgier act when brought to the USA, but her pop music and high-energy personality have remained constant. Whether she's performing a pop-hit or walking down the street, Cher Lloyd's style is always exciting and trendy.
