Style Crush: Justin Bieber
Known For: Singing, Songwriting, Acting
Style: Street, Baggy, Swag
This week's Style Crush is Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber is a Canadian pop singer-songwriter, actor, and musician that came to fame through YouTube. Justin was discovered in 2008 by his now-manager, Scooter Braun, when his mom posted videos of him singing at a local competition in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario. Although Justin ended up getting second place in the Stratford Idol competition, he was soon flown to the United States to meet with Scooter. Justin eventually got the opportunity to meet Usher, an established R&B singer, and perform one of Usher's original songs to him. Usher was so impressed that he took Justin under his wing and still to this day is Justin's mentor and close friend. Thanks to Usher and Scooter, Justin got his big break when L.A. Reid, major record executive, writer, and producer, offered him a record deal with Island Records. Since then, Justin has released over 6 albums including My World 2.0, Under the Mistletoe, and Believe, two world tours, made a movie, Never Say Never, sold over 15 million albums, and won Artist of the Year twice.
Although Justin grew up in a small town, he always knew he was meant for something big. Justin's dream of being a singer/entertainer only got stronger as he continued to grow up. Even now when he is established and the third-most powerful celebrity in the world, according to Forbes magazine, Justin continues to push his artistic limits in his music, acting, and fashion. Justin's fashion has influences from his childhood goofiness and his now hip-hop scene seriousness. He has a nice balance of fun and determination in his style. Sometimes not everyone agrees with his baggy pants, big shoes, and backwards hats, but he stays true to himself and embraces the cultures of rap, hip-hop, and R&B that surround him.
